Pictured is Benjamin with two members of San Francisco's City/County Board of Supervisors.

Benjamin volunteered for all 5 of San Francisco "Sunday Streets" events. These were great events where the city closed dozens of city streets to car traffic to allow bikers, hikers, skaters, family with kids, all types to wander the streets without cars. I volunteered for three of the events, and enjoyed doing so a lot.

(I really hate you Xanga for making it ridiculous at best and impossible at worst to simply download a freaking picture or video. For some reason, when I click "choose photo" it does not choose the photo. It did let me drag it. It's not even letting me use xanga code, so xanga, I have better things to do than trying to figure out why something that should be so basic to blogging and used to be easy has to be made so hard.)

OK, like after trying ten different things, I opened it up as a URL in a separate window and just copied. That still doesn't exculpate Xanga from me not being able to download and share videos.

Birther FAIL

Do all birthers believe President Obama was born in Kenya? Well, maybe a fewbelieve this:

According to Public Policy Polling (PPP), a North Carolina polling firm, only 24%of self-identified Republican voters in the state believe Barack Obama was born in the United States. 47% do not believe that Obama is American born, and 29% of Republicans aren’t sure.
One part of PPP’s data might reassure sentient readers somewhat: 7% of those who voted for John McCain do not believe Hawaii to be a part of the United States. Now perhaps this is just another irrational expression of Obama hatred. But, it may also be older voters who never quite absorbed the news that our 50th state is indeed our 50th state. (I laughed out loud and decided to blog it when I read that --- Kevin)

Got that? Maybe Obama wasn’t born in America because Hawaii isn’t part of America. That would explain a couple percentage points worth of the birther movement. Now, what about the rest of them?

Flirting with Disaster

FARK has photoshop contests all the time. But I only post them on Xanga when there's at least 4 that are absolutely top quality. This one was to photoshop "Flirting with Disaster". So here's four. My favorite one is the last one: it wasn't a photoshop at all, it was the real deal, but absolutely fit the theme of flirting with the disaster. To see all of the photoshops, here is the link.

World's oldest man

The worlds's oldest man, Tomoji Tanabe of Japan (1895-2009) has just died. The new oldest man is now 113 year old Henry Allingham of Brighton, England, the last surviving veteran of World War I.

Having developed into somewhat of an Asian expert from having lived there during most of the 1990s, I have fallen behind in my European studies. So, some of the jokes on here I do not get. Can anyone fill me in on some of the holes?

I understand the Selfish Fishermen is a knock at Norway's whaling activities. I've heard that there is some performer from Iceland named Bjork. I get it about the Swiss banks. Yuk, yuk, yuk about the USA being located in Iraq, Lebanon being a mess, and Israel being home to war addicts. Turkey being "NO YOUTUBE LAND" reminds me of Thailand nationally banning Youtube, I think because someone said something bad about the King of Thailand on a youtube. But I'm missing the joke on most of the others.

          2) It's so rainy here, so I'm catching up on everything. But we need the rain here in California to prevent drought.

         3) FARK had another photoshop contest on how Obama could pimp up the Oval Office. Actually more than three weeks ago, but I've been procrastinating. In first place:

Don't count Bobby Jindal out just because he gave a crummy counterspeech after Obama's State of the Union speech. Bobby's just 37 years old and still has 8 years to disentangle himself from the GOP Party of current times that wrote the speech he gave, and told him to speak to the public like they were 5th graders.

Good guys gone bad and bad guys gone good on FARK

Besides it reporting news with clever headlines, and people having a forum to comment, another reason that FARK.com is my favorite site, even more than Xanga, is because of the many photoshop contests. Recently, they had two contests, one of good guys going bad, and the other about bad guys going good.

Good guys gone bad included Obama portrayed as Bush, and Jesus at a girlie bar.

In the bad guys gone good, amongst many entries, they had Dick Cheney portrayed as the Buddha, and Rod Blagojevich portrayed as Jesus St Jude (much thanks to MejicoJohn, King of North America, who really knows his saints, for finding my error).

I find the photoshop of Obama looking as clueless and naive and innocent as Bush in the "Mission Accomplished in Iraq" scene the most disturbing.

Everglades

Here are some photos of our road trip to the Everglades. Two birds, one alligator, and the last picture is the view from my father's queen consort's condominium in North Dade County. This was at the "Shark Valley" entrance to the Everglades. There are two other main entrances.
